Out There Conference: Elizabeth Kelly, Women's and Gender Studies Program and Gary Cestaro, Modern Languages. $7,650 to support the 2nd National Out There conference on LGTQ issues on Catholic Campuses to be hosted at DePaul in October of 2007.

The Saint Makers: A Living Tradition in American Art from the Southwest: Louise Lincoln, Art Museum. $5,000 to assist in the exhibition of unique religious images from the American Southwest to be presented at DePaul's Art Museumin January 2008.

This is Our Faith: University Ministry. $2,225 to support a week long program in October 2007 showcasing the diversity and multiplicity of Roman Catholicism as it is experienced at DePaul.

The Gospel According to St. Vincent de Paul: University Ministry. $3,000 to support a weekend retreat for DePaul students curious about Catholicism and Vincentian Spirtuality.

Catholic Campus Ministry Lenten Retreat: University Ministry. $3,000 to support a Catholic retreat experience the weekend before Ash Wednesday, 2007.

Witness of the Body: The Past, Present and Future of Christian Martyrdom: Karen Scott, Catholic Studies. $6,000 to assist on-going lectures and events exploring the significance of Christian martyrdom in the varied circumstances of Christian history and the contemporary era.

Incunabula and Rare Book Cataloging: Kathryn DeGraff, Special Collections and Archives, Richardson Library. $2,500 to catalog rare Catholic theology books printed in Greek and Latin between the 15th and 18th centuries.

McNair Scholars Mission Service Trip: Doreen Hopkins, McNair Scholars Program and Alex Magana, Mission and Values. $5,880 to support the McNair Scholars Spring 2007 trip to Los Angeles, California where students will serve at Vincentian social service organizations and visit graduate school programs in the Los Angeles metropolitan area.

Penetrating Radiation: Yuki Miyamoto, Religious Studies. $2,000 to assist in a series of discussions on the effects of nuclear radiation on humans and the environment from atomic bombs, nuclear power plant leaks, and exposure to nuclear materials.

Cesar Chavez Service Series: Marisol Morales, Steans Center for Community-based Service Learning. $3,000 to support the spring 2007 Cesar Chavez Service Day and subsequent educational programming.

The Compassionate Listening Project: Frida Furman, Religious Studies. $3,822 to support Frida's participation in a 12-day training program in Israel/Palestine on compassionate listening and how to foster reconciliation across religious and political differences.

The Implications of Atkins: Chris Nadeau, student, College of Law. $5,000 to support a joint effort by the Center for Justice in Capital Cases and DePaul Law Review to hold a national symposium in March 2007 on the theoretical and practical implications of the Supreme Court's decision in Atkins v. Virginia that the mentally retarded should be categorically excluded from the Death Penalty under the 8th Amendment.

Women, Spirit, and Action: Anjanette Hosley, Women in Leadership. $2,500 to assist in this year's Louise de Marillac Series that will focus on Harriet Tubman's extraordinary faith and character.

Building a New World in Solidarity: James Block, Political Science and Leslie Wirpsa, International Studies Program. $3,000 to support a DePaul delegation attending the World Social Forum in Nairobi, Kenya.

Commemorative Vincentian Item: Jennifer Weed, Academic Enhancement. $4,000 to develop a special commemorative Vincentian item to be given out at the Fall 2007 New Student Convocation.

Vincentian Scanning Project: Kathryn DeGraff, Special Collections and Archives, Richardson Library. $10,000 to assist in the completion of the scanning of 129 volumes of "Les Annales de la Congregation de la Mission," (1834-1963) an essential research resource for Vincentian history.

Vincentian Poverty Reduction Symposium: Marco Tavanti, Public Services. $4,150 to conduct a joint symposium with St. John's and Niagara Universities to promote awareness on the Vincentian values and practices in addressing poverty reduction.

Vincentian France Travelogue: Fr. Ed Udovic, C.M., Office of Mission and Values and Nathaniel Michaud, Vincentian Studies Institute. $10,000 to complete an English language version of Fr. John Rybolt's comprehensive travel guide to Vincentian France.

Taize Retreat: Fr. Chris Robinson, University Ministry. $8,000 to support a Catholic retreat experience for students at the ecumenical Taize Community in France.


Two previously funded grants received additional funding:

Staff Emeritus Oral History: Alice Farrell, Office of Mission and Values. $3,000 to complete an oral history project documenting the experiences of retired DePaul staff.

Celebrating the Vincentian Mission: Len Cavise, College of Law. $1,000 to support the 2nd Annual Public Interest Law Conference to be held fall 2007.

 

The projects were awarded $94,727. Since its inception in 1992, the VEF has awarded 321 regular and discretionary grants for over $1,000,000. The average award for a VEF grant is around $4,100.
