Vincentian Mission Fellows
“A DePaul education: values for leadership, values for service, values for life”

In the fall of the 2007-08 Academic Year, the Office of Mission and Values began a two-year Vincentian Mission Fellows program for a select group of diverse students who were entering their Junior year.

The DePaul University Vincentian Mission Fellows (VMF) allows students, who are already highly engaged in the mission and values of DePaul University to deepen their commitment via study, service, reflection, Vincentian Heritage trips, and mentoring.

These students have:

  • Demonstrated leadership and service experience, and a commitment to intellectual inquiry and academic excellence.
  • Understood their time at DePaul as forming their commitment to a personal response to the urgent needs of the world, and want their response to be rooted in Vincentian values.
  • A desire for a professional career through which they can maintain their commitment to Vincentian service and values.
  • A mentor that is both a professional and one who lives his/her life rooted in Vincentian values.

The place God calls you is the place where your deepest gladness and the world's deepest hunger meet.

The program will include a variety of academic, service, reflection, and co-curricular activities accompanied by a mentorship program. Each student will receive scholarship support and be assigned a mentor who is presently leading a professional and personal life characterized by a dedication to Vincentian values. It is hoped that as Vincentian Mission Fellows graduate they will, as alumni, become the program’s future mentors.

  • Actively participating in two classes (one course each year) related to St. Vincent and the Vincentian Mission (tuition of courses covered).
  • Participate in the Vincentian Heritage Study Trip to France and a Vincentian Service Trip to Los Angeles during Spring Breaks (cost of trips covered).
  • Dedicate 15-20 hours per quarter for the various VMF events and activities.
  • Maintain regular journal entries throughout the program.
  • Prepare a poster presentation of the overall experience towards the end of the two-year program.

One great benefit of a religious vocation is that it helps you concentrate.  It gives you a good basic sense of what is being asked of you and also what you might as well ignore.
