DePaul Emeritus Society

DePaul University values the important and continuing contributions of its retired faculty and staff.  In 2007, the Emeritus Professors Society and the Staff Emeritus Society merged into the DePaul Emeritus Society, which strengthens ties between the university and its retirees, and fosters their continued participation in the DePaul University community.  The DePaul Emeritus Society (DES) is sponsored by the Office of Mission and Values.

Membership in the DES is open to all faculty and staff who have retired from the university with 20 years of full-time service and are 55 years or older; or have retired from the university with 10 years of full-time service and are 62 years or older.  Retirees meeting these criteria are eligible for the university’s retiree health and prescription drug benefit package.

Services and Privileges

Communications and University Resources

  • Retired faculty and staff are encouraged to keep their Campus Connect account and ID card upon retirement, and may also retain their university e-mail account.  Your preferred e-mail address listed on Campus Connect will be used for university announcements and updates, such as benefits enrollment issues, bereavement notices, and others.  DES members may use faculty/staff computer labs on campus, as well as photocopiers and printers with a Demon Express Account.  Information about Demon Express may be found at http://discounts.depaul.edu under the heading “Demon Express.”
  • To open a Campus Connect account, to set up a DePaul e-mail account for home use, or for other technological support, retirees may contact the Technology Assistance Center, at 312/362-8765.
  • Benefits also include access to all university libraries, including electronic resources and borrowing privileges with ILLINET Online libraries.  University communications are continued through both paper and online formats, including Newsline, DePaul Magazine, the DePaul Information Directory, and the DePaul Emeritus Society newsletter.
  • The Office of Human Resources currently maintains a web site dedicated specifically to retiree benefits.  The site may be found at http://hr.depaul.edu  under the “Benefits” heading.

Special Events, Projects, and Volunteer Opportunities

  • DES members will enjoy a full calendar of social occasions, including twice yearly luncheons, the university picnic each summer, the Distinguished Service Awards luncheon, Vincentian Heritage Tour opportunities, Christmas at DePaul, music and theater performances, and more.
  • The DES sponsors a variety of special projects and initiatives specifically designed to contribute to the rich history of the university.  Projects such as the Oral History Project, Memorabilia Project, and DES Scholarship Fund comprise a unique and lasting identity for the DePaul Emeritus Society within the university community.
  • Retirees may wish to continue their service to the university community through volunteering.  Opportunities include Vincentian Service Day, serving on select DES or other university committees, and departmental or university-wide events, such as Commencement, University Ministry programs, etc.

Discounts

  • Retirees are eligible to receive discounts on a variety of both university and retail goods and services.  These include athletic events, DePaul Music School performances, use of the Ray Meyer Fitness Center, university bookstores, area restaurants, and many more.  A guide to these discounts may be found at http://discounts.depaul.edu  under the heading “Discounts by Group.”
