How does one call upon the University Ombudsperson?

Typically, a faculty or staff member may call upon the University Ombudsperson at any time to schedule a meeting to talk over an issue. The University Ombudsperson listens to issues, assists the individual, addresses the issues through university channels, suggests means of addressing problems or makes appropriate referrals, facilitates resolution of any issues, offers mediation where appropriate, and seeks ways of addressing the problems within the parameters of the mission and values of the university. The neutral University Ombudsperson is independent of the ordinary staff structure. Thus, with the individual's permission, the University Ombudsperson has access to all university officials with responsibility for a particular area and university records, and may bring problems to the attention of the appropriate person or explore ways to reach resolution of the issue. Absent that permission, all conversations remain confidential except to avoid imminent harm or danger to others, or as otherwise required by law.

You may communicate with the University Ombudsperson in the manner you feel most comfortable with: by telephone 312/362-8707; confidential fax 312/362-5706; email, ombuds@depaul.edu or mail (1 East Jackson Blvd., Chicago, Illinois 60604). All communication will be confidential unless otherwise authorized by the individual seeking assistance or required by law. Appointments can be made to meet in the Ombudsperson's office, 55 East Jackson, Room 853, on the Loop Campus. In addition, arrangements can be made to meet at any other campus or location.
